Mektup – A film by Emre Kalender ‘Part One NL’ My project, “Mektup,” which means “letter” in Turkish, focuses on first-generation Turkish immigrants in the Netherlands and their unique experiences. In the first phase, I filmed 33 of these pioneers who were among the very first to come to the Netherlands. Their stories form a valuable letter to younger generations, in which they openly share their challenges and dreams. I highlight the obstacles they faced, from culture shock to integration, and how they nevertheless found their place and contributed to the rich diversity of the Netherlands.
